GNK GOLF COURSES

A golfer’s paradise

Nicklaus Design – designed and built this fantastic 18-hole par 68 golf course. This course’s wide fairways pre-dominate and contrast with the great bunkers and lakes. Although the course is not very long, 5,403 metres from the white tees, it requires a lot of attention, especially on all the greens, as they are very well defended by bunkers and lakes with the turtle shell shape of the greens that can carry the ball into the obstacles that protect them.

Distance from:

Corvera airport: 21 minutes
Alicante airport: 64 minutes
Los Alcázares beach: 19 minutes
Murcia city: 25 minutes

A course with consistent and fast greens, surrounded by bunkers and strategically located lakes. Greens that reject the ball if it has not been struck with precision, its turtle shell shapes make the ball roll to obstacles. Without a doubt, an ideal course for a strategic game, exciting and precise. All holes have a choice of five tees which makes it much more fun depending on the level of each player.

The par 3’s as “challenging”

If something stands out on La Torre Golf course is its six par 3’s. Six holes that require a very accurate shot to be able to leave with a par. The first par 3 that we find on the course is the 3rd hole, 164 metres from the yellow tee. The hole is on a rise with a green well protected by numerous bunkers. Hole 5 is only 131 metres but is defended by a large bunker that we will have to carry to reach the platform of the green, to go through the green would give us a huge problem because of the vegetation that sur-rounds it. The 9th hole of 145 metres is a difficult hole with water on the right and in front of the green. Hole 11, index 4 at 170 metres is one of the most difficult on the course, water on the right and out of bounds on your left and its green has a prominent form of turtle shell that can take the ball into the lake. Hole 15 at 139 metres may be the easiest, but you cannot relax as its all out of bounds down the left. The 17th hole of 153 metres has every-thing, side water, bunkers and out of bounds on the left, a challenge requiring precision…

A great story to tell

It has to be said that La Torre’s golf course has a history. Although it has only been open 11 years its facilities have hosted some of the most important sporting events in Spain. Among them we can highlight the Senior Professionals Championship of Spain in 2011, a semi-final of the Davis Cup between Spain vs Israel, the Adapted Golf Nations Cup Championship and innumerable youth golf championships organised by the Royal Spanish Golf federation, etc … Since GNK Golf owns this course it continues to move in the same line of exclusivity and glamour, maintaining facilities in an optimal state and offering its facilities for all types of sporting events, presentations and events of all kinds.

A challenge on the eye and the game

There are courses that leave a mark and El Valle Golf is one of those. Not only because of its Nicklaus Design. “Jack” himself was involved in all the development and put his style and wisdom into this design. A very well-defined undulating course that contrasts with the desert landscape. The greens are always raised and are protected by large and intimidating bunkers. El Valle Golf is a course with spectacular views, from anywhere you can enjoy incredible views that transport you to those desert courses of California. El Valle Golf is a course that inspires the player to make the perfect shot.

Distance from:
Corvera airport: 19 minutes
Alicante airport: 68 minutes
Los Alcázares beach: 30 minutes
Murcia city: 20 minutes

El Valle golf one of the most emblematic courses of GNK Golf. An 18-hole par 71 course with a total length of 6185 from the white tee, undulating fairways between large towers of limestone, making up the striking landscape in which it is located and is what impresses both players and visitors. El Valle Golf in its 11 years of existence has hosted important championships such as: the Spanish Championship of Professionals in 2009 and the European Senior Tour OKI in 2011 as well as many other championships of the Spanish Golf Federation and the Qualifying Stage for the European Tour. Located in this impressive resort, is a golf course, open to the public and one of the most liked within the GNK Golf Circuit.

A valley of fairways, greens and bunkers

El Valle Golf is a course that transmits peace and harmony to the player. Its arid landscape of ochre colours contrasts with the green fairways. The unevenness of its land gives it a great personality, with holes of singular beauty. El Valle Golf is designed so that the player, whatever his level, has the need to use a wide range of strokes, thereby rewarding the strategic game. Each stroke requires sharpening the senses and calculating the distances well. Another differential concept of this course is given by the number of bunkers (115) and its 2 large lakes that separate and contour the 13th and 14th holes first, and then the 17th and 18th holes. It is a short course but requires great skill to put the ball in the fairway, thus facilitating a free shot to the green, which is always protected.

A golf course to remember

Playing golf at Hacienda Riquelme is a different experience, both because of its topography where the wide fairways with smooth slopes predominate, as well as its lay-out, beautiful but at the same time very demanding. Hacienda Riquelme Golf is a course that opened in June 2008, designed by Nicklaus Design, and where they knew how to take advantage of the land to build an expansive course, Par 72 and a total of 6356 meters, with five large lakes and a number of bunkers, which are the hallmark of this course.

Distance from:
Corvera airport: 23 minutes
Alicante airport: 60 minutes
Los Alcázares beach: 19 minutes
Murcia city: 30 minutes

Hacienda Riquelme Golf is a real treasure, once you play it you are already thinking about going back. It is a course that you fall in love with, almost all the holes seem obtainable, and we dream of playing to our handicap, but as you advance, you discover that it is, as beautiful and fun, as it is difficult to conquer. The greens of Hacienda Riquelme Golf are wide and many of them are raised, which makes access to them difficult. In addition, all the greens have several levels which allow a very creative placing of the flags. The key is not to reach the green, but to put the ball in the right place to make the minimum number of putts.

One of the main attractions of Hacienda Riquelme Golf is the countryside environment that surrounds it, made up of olive trees, palm trees, a lot of indigenous flora and the five large lakes that contain many waterfowl. This was key in the design of the course, since many of the trees and shrubs that surrounded the original farm were respected. The course is located in this wonderful enclave, surrounded by trees, has greens with many slopes where your approach strategy will be decisively influenced at the time, if you wish to improve your score. It’s a technical course, the fairways are wide and suitable for all abilities of players, but all the holes are defended by bunkers. Undoubtedly one of the most relevant features of this course is that it is fully built (tees, fairways, roughs and greens) with the Pas-palum vaginatum, a variety of grass that allows irrigation with high salinity water, therefore, not requiring too much water resources. Another quality of this type of grass is that it has high resistance to the changes of temperature like the Bermuda grass. From the point of view of the game it is as good as other types of grass, although it requires greater care and maintenance, especially on the greens, something that GNK Golf greenkeepers perform to perfection.

Holes 9 and 18, two great endings

The 9th hole of the course is a par 4 of 341 metres from the yellow tee, with water on the right throughout the hole and an area of shrubs on the left. The tee is a little bit tight to the lake, so you should hit a straight and long shot to get to the fairway. Depending on the result of the first shot, you must assess whether or not to attack the green, as it is very well protected by a bunker in front, another on the left and the lake on your right. The green has a large gap which will be vital when deciding which shot you are going to execute. The 18th hole, again a par 4 of 369 metres from the yellow tee, is a very difficult hole for players not very experienced. The tee shot, with the green somewhat tucked into the lake, requires a long shot to overcome the hazard on your left. On the fairway, a bunker on the left and another on the right limit the width of the hole. The entrance to the green is very narrow with the lake on the left and bunkers on your right is very intimidating when hitting the shot. This hole is one of those holes that require thinking and knowing what your limitations are … depending on your handicap, sometimes a bogey is not bad …

The best golf destination of the Mediterranean

Jack Nicklaus, considered one of the best golfers of all time with 18 majors and more than 70 PGA tour victories, he is also one of the most prestigious designers of golf courses in the world. The “Great Golden Bear” has left us his imprint in the Region of Murcia with the GNK Alhama Signature course. It was Jack Nicklaus himself who thought, designed and supervised the works of GNK Alhama Signature, stamping his mark as the main creator. You could think that this is just a publicity claim, but on the contrary, when the inimitable Jack Nicklaus gets involved in a project, it is because he is going to dedicate himself exclusively to its construction. This can be appreciated in Al-hama Siganture, where the shaping of the course, greens, fairways, vegetation, etc … are very well thought out in order to meet the standards to bear the signature of Jack Nicklaus himself.

This course is American in style, with wide fairways, exquisite shaped greens and with 116 bunkers, it is quite a long course at 6,884 metres from the white tees. An exciting round which requires a great mastery of all the clubs, especially the driver, a very demanding course for all types of players. Although all its holes offer game alternatives, it is essential to think about the strategy for each of its holes, depending on the limitations or skills of each player. Throughout the round you can enjoy wonderful views of the Sierra Espuña, the most popular mountain range of the Region of Murcia. Its landscaping, desert style, is bathed with large areas of sand covered by native Mediterranean flora and fauna. A beautiful course with delightful views from all around, that inspires you to great golf moments. As Jack Nicklaus says, “My golf game would only go to a certain point in time so designing courses is my passion and with what I feel most accomplished. Every time I see one of my courses, I feel it is something that will last forever. Alhama Signature, is a great golf course, because without doubt this course deserves to be played by all golf players, and GNK Golf is already on it …”

GNK Golf, in search of excellence

The maintenance of a golf course like Alhama Signature requires something special: a lot of care and maximum attention to detail. Playing a course of this caliber is an experience for all golfers, both aesthetically: because it impresses, and for its design: where strategy plays a fundamental part. To achieve these objectives, you need an extensive knowledge of the game of golf, of the grass, the use of specialised equipment, the latest advances in fertilizers, fungicides and pesticides and always being respectful of the environment. Good management of budgets and the creation of effective work teams, also all have the sole purpose of fulfilling the philosophy with which Jack Nicklaus designed this golf course: fast and undulating greens, impeccable fairways, bunkers with varied shapes and land-scaping that takes us to the southern courses of the United States. Without doubt, a task that not everyone can carry out.
